Volunteers’ Week Spotlight: Paul’s Story

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a volunteer at Reel Minds and I enjoy helping people while taking part in the activities there. I also enjoy fishing, gardening and spending time at my allotment.

How did you get involved?

I first got involved after seeing Reel Minds on social media. I have always loved helping others and spending time fishing, so the vision of Reel Minds really suited me. Becoming a volunteer at Reel Minds was a no-brainer.

What difference has volunteering made to you? 

Volunteering at Reel Minds has had a positive impact on me in dealing with my own mental health.

What difference has volunteering made to your organisation?

I have seen an impact in relation to the progress of participants’ confidence levels and personal skills by seeing individuals come out of their shells over time.

What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?

Give it a go, you have nothing to lose! It’s always good to help other people.
